Corgi-L - Your Subscription

Listserv is Easy!

You can manage your own subscription settings with simple email commands, even if you are a computer beginner. Listserv has a very simple way of allowing you to manage your own subscription - you simply email specific commands, outlined below, to the listserv address, and it does the rest.

  • Do not send listserv commands to the Corgi-L list!!!! Be sure they go to listserv@listserv.tamu.edu.
  • Remember that you are talking to a computer. Leave the subject line blank, in the message body enter only the commands shown below, and turn off your sig file before sending.
  • Do not send html, MIME, or rich text. Use plain text only.
  • You can send multiple commands in a single email, but be sure to put each command on a separate line.
  • You must send email from the email address under which you are subscribed to Corgi-L (unless, of course, you are attempting to subscribe).

Click on any of the items below to see the steps required.

image To Change Your Email Address on which you get Corgi-L

  • Using your old email address, address an e-mail to listserv@listserv.tamu.edu

  • Leave the subject line blank (if you are on AOL or a provider that won't allow a blank subject line, just type a period for the subject.)

  • In the body of the message, type:

    CHANGE Corgi-L newemail@newemail.com

    all on one line.

Of course, you should substitute your new email address for "newemail@newemail.com".

  • Listserv will send a confirmation notice to your NEW email address. You must respond to this confirmation with an OK, as instructed.

  • After you have replied to the confirmation, Listserv will send acknowledgements to BOTH your email addresses.

If for some reason you no longer have access to your old address, let the admin team know, and we'll handle it for you.

Of course, you should substitute your own name for "John Smith."

  • Do not include a sig file or any other text in the message body!

image To Post a Messages to the Corgi-L List

  • Simply send it to corgi-L@listserv.tamu.edu. This will go to a moderator for approval. Once approved, your post will go out to the entire list.

  • We ask that you use a descriptive subject line to help other subscribers sort their mail.

  • When you reply to a message in Digest format, please change your subject line to an appropriate title. Otherwise the subject will appear as "RE:CORGI-L DIGEST", which is both annoying and meaningless. Also be sure that you do not quote an entire Digest back in your reply! This will result in your message being rejected by the moderators.

Don't see you own messages? Suddenly not receiving mail? Check the commands currently in effect for your subscription. This is a useful first step if something suddenly seems to have changed about your subscription. The message you receive will show all of your settings and explain what each means. Perhaps you are set "NoMail", perhaps you are set not to see receive a copy of your own posts. You can fix these things yourself!

  • Address an e-mail to listserv@listserv.tamu.edu

  • Leave the subject line blank or put in a period.

  • In the body of the message type

    QUERY Corgi-L

    all on one line.

image To diagnose why Listserv might reject your commands

Are you sending your commands from the exact email address under which you are subscribed?

In order for you to send messages to either the CORGI-L address or the Listserv address, you must send them from the exact email address under which you are subscribed. If you have multiple accounts, you must manage each subscription from the correct email address for that account.

If you receive CORGI-L mail via your site redistribution ID, you will have to subscribe to CORGI-L with another address in order to post messages, and you may need help from the list administrators to change your subscription options. Use the SET NOMAIL command on additional accounts to avoid multiple postings.

Also check the following:

  • Did you address your email to listserv@listserv.tamu.edu?
  • Did you leave the subject line blank, in the message body enter only the listserv command, and turn off your sig file before sending?
  • Did you turn off html or rich text, and send your email in plain text?
  • Did you put each command on a separate line?
  • Did you send your command from the email address under which you are subscribed to Corgi-L?

Contact your friendly Corgi-L Admin Team
corgi-AD@listserv.tamu.edu

Corgi-L's administrative team is made up of list members who have volunteered to handle the technical and administrative end of managing a list of this size. Their duties include handling error messages, interfacing with our hosts at TAMU, setting list policy, resolving complaints and disputes, and moderating postings to the list.

When you send a simple question to Corgi-AD, it is handled by the first available administrator. More complex problems are discussed and decided by the entire team. The name of the administrator responsible for approving a post will appear on the acknowledgement message your receive.

CorgiAid

CorgiAid is a nonprofit organization which raises money to meet extraordinary expenses for rescue Corgis -- Cardigans, Pembrokes, and mixes -- with special medical, transport, training or fostering needs.  The concept of CorgiAid began on Corgi-L and became a reality through the incredible generosity of Corgi-L members. Read the story of the CorgiAid mascot, Corgi-L's Heidi Braveheart, and watch for the CorgiAid logo next to listings in the shopping section. Your support of these merchants, artists, and craftspeople raises needed funds for CorgiAid!
