The List Usage Guidelines, adapted from the Corgi-L Welcome Message.
These are the List Usage Guidelines, adapted from the Corgi-L Welcome Message for web navigation. Please review them if you have any questions about list rules or how to use the list.
For help on the mechanics of subscribing, unsubscribing or changing your subscription options, visit the How Do I… section where you’ll find explicit instructions.
In order to keep spamming and flame wars to a minimum, we have put Corgi-L on full moderation. Please note, the moderators DO NOT (and CANNOT) edit or change your postings in any way. If there’s a problem, we will forward the posting back to you and ask you to change it.
- Occasional heated dialogue is anticipated and welcome, as long as it is Corgi-related and stays polite.
- However, off-topic postings — political and religious activism, PETA and animal rights, discriminatory statements against any group, and commercial announcements– are not welcome.
- The list administration reserves the right to call a halt to off-topic threads.
- This is a Corgi discussion list, and posts should be Corgi-related, that’s why people come here. Brief “NCC” or No-Corgi-Content posts are fine as part of an ongoing discussion.
- Solicitation is extremely sensitive and restricted. Posts asking for donations must be Corgi-related, for registered, verifiable, non-profit organizations, and infrequent. Posts about specific events, such as a disaster or puppy mill expose, must be timely, corgi-related, and verifiable through mainstream online news sources.
- Advertising is prohibited on the list except on behalf of nonprofit breed clubs and organizations within the solicitation restrictions above. However, a single tagline and link to your business or organization may be included in your email signature.
- Please don’t send virus warnings, chain letters, internet forwards, electronic greeting cards, or urban legends to the list.
- We only allow one mention of photo contests and the like on the list, to avoid flooding the list with posts about contests and who voted for who, where they are, and so on.
- We only allow one mention of calendars on list for the same reason. In the past repeated posts of “what a beautiful calendar; where can I get one?” and all the replies of “here’s the address to order” end up taking up tons of bandwidth on the list, and constitute de facto advertising.
- Copyright issues will be strictly enforced. You must have written permission from the original author of a story, poem, or email in order to post it.
- Absolutely no advertisements of puppies or dogs for sale will be approved. Rescue announcements are always okay. Requesting information on breeders is allowed, but all answers must take place off-list.
- Electronic Greeting Cards are not allowed to be sent to the list. While some electronic greeting card vendors are legitimate, others do harvest email addresses for subsequent marketing and spam, and some “greeting card” links are soley links to malicious websites. Our advice is to instead simply send your own greeting to the list, or upload your greeting card photo to a reputable photo-sharing site and share that link, or share a link to a web page under your own control.
- Profanity or obscenity is not allowed, but understand that list topics include discussion of dog breeding, anatomy, health issues, and reproduction.
- Complaints about list management or other subscribers should be sent to Corgi-AD, not to the list.
- FLAMING, EXTREME OBSCENITY, DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR, AND DISCRIMINATORY STATEMENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED!
Naturally, as events and situations warrant, there may be the occasional exception if the admins believe it’s warranted. And the occasional mistake, as the administrators are also human :-).
CORGI-L is for the discussion of every aspect of the Welsh Corgi (Pembroke and Cardigan) dogs. This includes (but is not limited to) training, breeding, showing, & health issues. We hope to meet public education needs, foster ethical breeding practices, and promote responsible dog ownership.
- To send a message to be read by all Corgi-L subscribers, follow the instructions here. You may only post messages from the email address through which you subscribed to the list. Email from other email addresses is (silently) discarded.
- You are urged to actively participate in posting messages to the list. The more contributions, the more we will all benefit from list membership! Your messages should be primarily related to Corgi-L’s focus: expanding our knowledge and enjoyment of Corgis.
- We ask that you use a descriptive subject line to help other subscribers sort their mail.
- When you reply to a message in Digest format, please change your subject line to an appropriate title. Otherwise the subject will appear as “RE:CORGI-L DIGEST”, which is both annoying and meaningless. Also, be sure that you do not quote an entire Digest back in your reply! This will result in your message being rejected by the moderators.
- When you reply to a message in any format, we ask that you trim down the original post to the 4 or 5 most relevant lines – enough for context. Included the entire original post (often including the Corgi-L footer) wastes bandwidth, and makes the digest version of Corgi-L very difficult to read.
- The administrators reserve the right to delete subscribers in order to eliminate repetitive error messages. You will receive notification and are encouraged to contact us for help in researching correcting this problem. We regret this, but it is necessary to keep the list running smoothly.
- Abuse of the rules and policies of CORGI-L may result in your removal.
Remember… FLAMING AND PERSONAL INSULTS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ON OR OFF THE LIST. YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THIS LIST PERMANENTLY IF YOU VIOLATE THIS RULE. Consider this your first warning. You will get a second one, should you violate this rule. A third warning will accompany the message you will receive informing you that you have been removed from the list. |
We hope this has been fairly well covered. Simply do not send anything to anyone, on or off the Corgi-L list, that you yourself would not want to receive. If you have a question about some material you may want to send, send it to an administrator and you will receive a reply on whether it fits within the mission of this List. Private flames will not be tolerated — if you have received one, please forward it to the admin team.
SENDING MESSAGES TO THE CORGI-L OWNERS/ADMIN TEAM
To send a message to the CORGI-L Owners/Administrators, please use the following address: Corgi-AD<at>listserv.tamu.edu (replace the “<at>” with “@”.)
- We ask that any comments, suggestions, complaints/compliments, etc. be sent directly to the Corgi-AD team and not to the list as a whole. Any policy changes will come from the Owners, therefore the suggestions for such should come to us.
- Contact the list administrators if you are having a problem with your subscription. Your message should explain the problem and what you have attempted to do to solve it. Please, never send such messages to CORGI-L. We will get back to you as soon as possible after the problem is researched and/or corrected. However, please be patient. We do have jobs, families, and Corgis that keep us busy. We will get back to you!
